Purpose

The Certified Elder Care Manager credential is dedicated to the credentialing of rehabilitation professionals who provide case management services to elderly individuals with health and/or disability issues. This credential assesses one's knowledge of public and private insurance benefit programs for persons who are defined by the U.S. government standards as meeting elderly criteria, as well as those elderly persons who have a disability.

Qualifications

The certification candidate must meet the minimum continuing education hours and any one of the educational/degree criteria before being eligible to sit for the CECM examination:

  1. A minimum of 60 continuing education hours in geriatric or elder care management training/courses.
  2. Master's degree and 3 years worth of experience in providing elder care case management services. Experience is defined as one being employed to service only clients meeting the age criteria for elderly, or may provide case management services for elderly clients and yet not designated as an elder care case manager by the employing entity.
  3. If a nurse with an RN designation, you must have a minimum of 5 years work experience
  4. Bachelor's degree and 5 years worth of experience in elder care management
  5. Associate's degree and 7 years worth of experience in elder care management

Recertification

The Certified Elder Care Manager professional must have his or her CECM credential renewed every 3 years by demonstration of 30 hours of (CHCC approved) continuing education hours
